Can I Get ClearCorrect If I Have Dental Restorations?

Clear aligners like ClearCorrect have become a popular alternative to traditional braces for straightening teeth. They are discreet, removable, and often more comfortable than metal brackets and wires. But many people wonder: Can I still get ClearCorrect if I have dental restorations like crowns, veneers, or fillings?

In many cases, the answer is yes. However, there are a few important factors your dentist will consider before starting treatment.

What is ClearCorrect?

ClearCorrect is an orthodontic system that uses a series of custom-made, transparent aligners to gradually move teeth into their proper position. Each set of aligners is worn for 22 hours per day for 1 to 2 weeks before switching to the next one in the series, allowing teeth to shift slowly and safely.

Dental Restorations That Usually Work with ClearCorrect

Many common dental restorations do not prevent you from receiving ClearCorrect treatment. Patients with the following restorations are often still good candidates:

  • Dental crowns.
  • Tooth-colored fillings.
  • Dental bonding.
  • Dental bridges.
  • Veneers.

These restorations typically sit on top of or replace the visible portion of a tooth. As long as they are in good condition and securely attached, aligners can still apply gentle pressure to move the teeth. Your dentist will carefully examine your restorations to make sure they can withstand orthodontic movement.

Situations That May Require Extra Planning

Although many restorations are compatible with ClearCorrect, some situations require additional planning. For example, teeth with large crowns or bridges may move differently. Your dentist will evaluate whether the restorations will affect the movement of surrounding teeth.

If you have dental implants, it’s important to know that implants cannot move like natural teeth because they are anchored directly into the jawbone. In these cases, your dentist will design the aligner treatment plan around the implant’s fixed position.

Sometimes, patients may need to replace older restorations after their teeth have finished moving to ensure the best fit and appearance.

The Importance of a Personalized Evaluation

The best way to determine if ClearCorrect will work for you is through a comprehensive dental examination. Your dentist will evaluate the condition of your teeth, gums, and existing restorations before recommending orthodontic treatment.

Digital scans and treatment planning software can help map out how your teeth will move and identify any potential concerns before treatment begins.

Having dental restorations does not automatically disqualify you from clear aligner treatment. In many cases, patients with crowns, fillings, or veneers can still enjoy the benefits of ClearCorrect and achieve a straighter smile. By working closely with your dentist and developing a customized treatment plan, you can safely improve your smile while protecting the dental work you already have.
